The Academy

The academy is approximately 6 months long. The structure is that of a bootcamp. Drill instructors will push you to the point of exhaustion day in and day out.

Your day begins at 0700 with physical training (PT). PT will consist of running....LOTS OF RUNNING....pushups, situps, etc.

At 0900, you fall in line for a uniform inspection. Following uniform inspection, you begin didactic instruction until lunch.

After lunch, the remainder of the day is spent conducting practical exercises and evolutions.

While in the academy, recruits will train in the following major areas:

• EMT-B
• CPR
• Firefighter I & II
• Hazardous Materials Operations
• Tactical Rescue
• Emergency Vehicle Operator Course Level 3
• Safety
• Quality of Life Training

I will make every attempt to recount the experience on a day by day, or week by week basis. Forgive me if I do not keep you up to date with every detail as it unfolds.
