Week 3: Day 1

No PT today....in fact, no PT until Friday.

EVOC Day #1

We learned ALL ABOUT the Virginia Criminal and Traffic Codes, setting up a transition area, and staging the work area for an MVA, and factors that affect safe operation of an Emergency Vehicle.

Tomorrow we will have a quiz over what we learned....then it is off to the driving course, where we will test our skills in a few different size ambulances.

We also finished all of our pushups today.....but alas, I'm sure we will get more!!

What I learned at dinner from Nick:

1) If an ambulance runs into you--even with its lights on--it's still technically their fault. They just never get ticketed.

2) When you hear a siren, you can pull over to the right OR the left (especially useful for a four-lane or six-lane road).

3) An ambulance will never have its siren on when it's driving on the right shoulder. Because then people would move over to the right shoulder and that would create more problems than before...

I suggested that the DC bus drivers get the same training as Nick. I can guarantee you most of those guys could barely pass driver's ed.
